Our first concert of the season explores beyond the typical chamber music formats to spotlight works composed for unusual combinations of instruments. Contemporary Argentine composer Osvaldo Golijov draws on Jewish folk and klezmer music in his Lullaby & Doina for flute, clarinet, double bass and string quartet. Mozart juxtaposed an oboe and a string trio in his Quartet, giving rise to a whole new palate of bright and cheerful tone colors. University of Tulsa professor W. Roger Price is putting a piano together with the venerable woodwind quintet to create his brand-new Sextet; this Tulsa Camerata performance will be its world premiere. Closing the concert will be Franz Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet – one of the only works to feature all four members of the string instrument family plus the piano.
